Terms of Service
Last updated: August 26, 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Somba. By applying for or using Somba, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use Somba.
1. Who can use Somba
Somba is a youth-centered platform for people aged 13 to 17, and if you are applying as a member you confirm you are within that age range. Nobody under 13 may hold an account of any kind. Adults cannot become ordinary Somba members. An adult invited by a partner club, programme or school may hold a restricted account so they can be in that organisation's Net, and an adult may separately apply for a narrowly restricted Verified Community Leader role under the Community Leader Agreement. Both are reviewed by a person before they open, both reach only the Net they are approved for, and neither is a membership. Being old enough to apply does not mean an application will be approved. One person may hold one account, and accounts cannot be shared.
If you apply, you also confirm that a parent or legal guardian agrees to your use of Somba. Where you are in the EU, the EEA, the UK, or a US state with its own parental-consent law, we ask for their email address and your account becomes active only after they approve it. Everywhere else we ask you to confirm they know, and an accepted account opens on acceptance; where you confirm it yourself, you are telling us it is true and we rely on that.
An invite code from a partner club, programme or school is that organisation vouching for you, and on that route there is no separate guardian approval step: issuing you a code is the organisation telling us it has already obtained whatever permission you need to take part, and we rely on that. You may still give us a guardian's address if you want them told you have joined. A community invitation code works differently again. It identifies a supervised community and nothing more: it does not create an account, skip application review, or replace any guardian process Somba requires. The age range is enforced on every route.
Your application answers must be truthful and your own work. Do not use AI to write your application answers; if we find that you did, we may decline or remove your account.
2. Your account
Keep your sign-in email secure. You are responsible for activity on your account, and you should tell us right away if you think someone else is using it. A person reads every application and makes the decision, and may accept or decline any application at our discretion.
An accepted account finishes its profile before the rest of Somba opens. Somba works by people finding each other, and an empty profile cannot be found, so we ask for it once and it takes a few minutes.
3. Membership, founding members, and payments
- Founding Membership. The first 100 accepted members receive a Founding Membership, which is free for life. Members accepted after the first 100 will need a paid membership.
- Paid membership (not live yet). Once the first 100 places are gone, membership is expected to cost $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year. That pricing is not final and may change before it launches. Anyone accepted before paid membership goes live keeps their membership free: we will not move an existing member onto a paid plan.
- Somba AI. AI features are a separate, optional add-on, expected to cost $1.99 per week when released. Founding Members keep the right to add AI at that price. Pricing and availability are not final and may change before launch.
- Referrals. Every member has one invite link, and there is no limit on how many people you may send it to. An invite link records who invited someone; it does not admit them. Everyone who arrives through one completes the same application, is reviewed by a person, and where a guardian address is required must be approved by that parent or guardian before an account exists. If someone joins Somba through your invite link and becomes an active member, you earn 1 free week of Somba premium, to be applied when premium is available. Weeks are counted from the accounts that actually joined through your link, so an application that is declined or withdrawn earns nothing. Referral weeks have no cash value, cannot be transferred or sold, and may be voided if we detect abuse or fake accounts.
- Payments (future). Because members are minors, anything paid on Somba must be bought and paid for by a parent or legal guardian who is 18 or over. Payments are taken by the company that operates Somba's payment account, which is the merchant of record and whose name is shown at the time of purchase and on the card statement.
- Renewals and cancelling (future). A paid membership renews by itself at the price and interval chosen, until it is cancelled. Before the first payment we show the price, how often it renews, and that it renews, and we ask the payer to agree to the renewal separately from anything else. Cancelling is done online in account settings, takes no more steps than signing up did, and stops the next renewal; the membership runs to the end of the period already paid for. Annual plans get a reminder before they renew.
4. Community rules
Be honest, be kind, and keep people safe. You agree not to:
- harass, bully, threaten, or harm anyone;
- share sexual, violent, hateful, or illegal content;
- share other people's private information;
- impersonate anyone or misrepresent your work;
- spam, scrape, or try to break, overload, or bypass the service or its limits;
- use Somba for anything illegal, or for private adult-to-minor contact. An approved adult in a partner or community Net may take part in that Net's group conversation and may not contact a member privately, on Somba or anywhere else.
Somba is text, links, profile photos, and images you attach to a message. An image you attach must be yours to share and must follow the same safety rules as everything else on Somba. Every attached image is looked at by a person on our team before the person it was sent to can see it, and one we do not approve is deleted rather than delivered. We may remove content and suspend or remove accounts that break these rules.
5. Safety
If something feels wrong, use the reporting tools or email safety@somba.dev. Urgent safety reports are reviewed by a person. If you or someone else is in danger, contact local emergency services first.
6. Your content
You keep ownership of what you create on Somba. You give us permission to store, display, and share your content within Somba as needed to run the service. You are responsible for what you post and confirm you have the right to share it.
7. Ending your membership
You or your guardian can close your account at any time by emailing ymjiang77@gmail.com. We may suspend or end an account that breaks these terms, ages out of the 13 to 17 range, or where a guardian withdraws consent.
8. Service provided "as is"
Somba is provided as is, without warranties. We are building this carefully, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors.
9. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Somba and its team are not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot be limited by law, including a minor's or a guardian's legal protections.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If we make material changes, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, notify members and guardians. Continuing to use Somba after changes means you accept them.
